ACFJ has awarded MA Journalism fellowships to 15 journalists from eight countries for school year 2007-2008.
The fellows are 5 female and 10 male journalists from Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and the Philippines.
They are Pratibha Tuladhar, news anchor and sub-editor at Kantipur Television Network, Nepal; Muhammad Sheharyar Khan, reporter at News Network International and editor at the Institute of Policy Studies, Pakistan; Mohamed Shihar, journalist for ART Television Broadcasting Co.; Chuong Huu Pham, sub-editor and managing editor of The Saigon Times Daily; Paulus Bambang Wisudo, senior journalist at Kompas Morning Daily, Indonesia; and Ean Nee Tan, host of “Siasat Mandarin” and assistant producer at NTV, Malaysia.
The four fellows from India are: Syed Nazakat Hussain, senior correspondent at Sahara Time, Syed Shujaat Bukhari, special correspondent at The Hindu, Manohar Rudrapp Yadavatti, news coordinator at E-TV Kannada Channel, and George Thomas (Siby Kattampally), senior editor at Malayala Manorama.
Three print and one broadcast journalists comprise the Filipino fellows, namely: Ilang-Ilang Quijano, reporter and features editor at Pinoy Weekly, and contributing writer for Philippine Graphic and Pinas; Avigail Olarte, researcher and writer at the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism; Thomas P. Manotoc, Jr., news anchor/host at ABS-CBN Broadcasting Inc.; and Isolde D. Amante, managing editor at Sun.Star Cebu.
ACFJ awards fellowships annually to Asian journalists with the potential to contribute to the development of an independent, responsible, and viable press in their communities.
